Laminar Research has released X-Plane 12.1.2, a significant update that enhances the default ATC system with more realistic phraseology and routing, alongside performance optimizations for both CPU and GPU. The update also includes new default aircraft features and bug fixes.
Laminar Research has announced the release of X-Plane 12.1.2, the latest incremental update to its flagship flight simulator. This version places a strong emphasis on improving the default air traffic control system, addressing long-standing community feedback. The revamped ATC now features more natural phraseology, better handling of SID/STAR assignments, and improved vectoring during approach. Additionally, the system now supports altitude constraints and more accurate traffic separation, making IFR flights more immersive.
Performance-wise, 12.1.2 introduces optimizations that reduce CPU overhead in dense scenery areas and improve GPU utilization, particularly with Vulkan. Users can expect higher frame rates and smoother performance, especially in complex aircraft like the default Cirrus SR22 and the updated Boeing 737-800. The update also brings enhancements to the default FMC, including support for RNAV approaches and improved VNAV path calculation.
Other changes include updated airport data, new lighting effects for runway and taxiway lights, and fixes for several crash-to-desktop issues. The update is available now via the X-Plane installer. Laminar Research continues to demonstrate its commitment to refining X-Plane 12, and this update is a welcome step forward for the platform. Third-party developers are also expected to benefit from the improved SDK stability.
