Winctrl has unveiled the Orion 2 throttle base, compatible with a range of interchangeable grips including the F-16C and F/A-18C. The base features contactless magnetic sensors and a redesigned detent system for afterburner and idle stops.

Winctrl, the hardware manufacturer formerly known as Winwing, has announced the Orion 2 throttle base, a significant upgrade to its popular Orion line. The new base uses contactless magnetic sensors for both axes, promising greater precision and durability. It also introduces a redesigned detent system that allows users to customize the feel of idle, afterburner, and cutoff positions without disassembling the unit. The Orion 2 is compatible with Winctrl's existing grips, including the F-16C and F/A-18C replicas, as well as the upcoming F-15E grip.

The Orion 2 features a full-metal construction and a new mounting system that supports both desk and cockpit setups. It includes a built-in USB hub and supports Winctrl's SimApp Pro software for calibration and firmware updates. The throttle also offers adjustable friction and tension, allowing pilots to fine-tune the feel for different aircraft types. According to Winctrl, the Orion 2 will begin shipping in November 2026, with pre-orders opening later this month.

Pricing has not been announced, but Winctrl hinted that it will be competitive with the original Orion. The company also teased a new force-feedback joystick base in development, though no release date was given. For DCS World and MSFS enthusiasts, the Orion 2 represents a compelling option for high-fidelity throttle control.
