VATSIM has announced a new monthly event series called 'Oceanic Ops' that will feature live ATC coverage on the North Atlantic Tracks, including Gander and Shanwick oceanic centers. The first event is scheduled for September 12, 2026.
VATSIM is taking a major step forward in realistic long-haul simulation with its new 'Oceanic Ops' event series. Starting September 12, 2026, the network will provide dedicated ATC coverage on the North Atlantic Tracks (NAT), with controllers staffing Gander Oceanic (CZQX) and Shanwick Oceanic (EGGX) positions. This will allow pilots to fly realistic SLOP (Strategic Lateral Offset Procedure) and experience proper position reporting, including HF-voice and CPDLC simulation for those prepared to use them.
The event is designed for both Airbus and Boeing pilots, with support for the PMDG 777, Fenix A320, and even the upcoming TFDi Design MD-11. Controllers will be using realistic separation standards, and pilots will need to file their flight plans via the VATSIM flight plan system, which has been updated to accept NAT-specific routings. A briefing document has been published on the VATSIM forums, and a Discord server has been set up for participants.
This event series reflects the growing demand for more challenging and realistic online flying. It also coincides with the release of new oceanic charts from Navigraph, which have been updated to reflect the latest NAT tracks. If you're a long-haul enthusiast, this is a must-join event. The VATSIM team has promised to expand the series to include Pacific tracks later in the year.
