VATSIM's flagship Cross the Pond event returns on November 7, with departures from Boston, New York, and Toronto to European destinations. The event will feature full ATC coverage and a new slot-booking system to manage traffic.
VATSIM has announced the return of Cross the Pond, its bi-annual transatlantic event, scheduled for November 7, 2026. This edition will see departures from Boston Logan (KBOS), New York John F. Kennedy (KJFK), and Toronto Pearson (CYYZ) between 1200z and 1600z, with arrivals into London Heathrow (EGLL), Amsterdam Schiphol (EHAM), and Paris Charles de Gaulle (LFPG). Over 2,000 pilots are expected to participate, making it one of the largest online flying events in the simulation calendar.
To manage the expected traffic volume, VATSIM is introducing a revised slot-booking system that allows pilots to reserve a departure window and route. The system, which was tested during this year's spring event, aims to reduce congestion on the ground and in the air. Pilots will be required to book a slot in advance and adhere to their assigned departure time; those without a slot may still participate but will be subject to flow control. The event will also feature full ATC coverage across the North Atlantic, with Oceanic controllers providing procedural separation.
For serious simmers, Cross the Pond is the ultimate test of crew resource management and systems knowledge. Flying a NAT track with accurate position reporting, managing fuel, and coordinating with oceanic control requires a level of preparation that goes beyond typical online flights. VATSIM recommends that pilots familiarize themselves with the latest NAT tracks and contingency procedures. The event is also a showcase for the community's favorite aircraft: expect to see a mix of PMDG 737s, Fenix A320s, iniBuilds A350s, and ToLiss A340s. Whether you're a veteran of previous Cross the Ponds or a first-timer, this is an event not to be missed.
