MSFS 2024

PMDG has moved its 777-200ER to release-candidate testing with a fully simulated FBW/autopilot chain, while Asobo outlines SU5 optimizations targeting DX12 frame-time stability and WASM avionics throughput in MSFS 2024.
PMDG has confirmed that its long-gestating 777-200ER for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has entered final beta, with the release candidate now undergoing route validation on VATSIM. The package retains the full PMDG feature set: independent LNAV/VNAV with real-world ARINC legs, a functional FMC with RNAV/RNP capability down to LPV minima, and a hydraulics and electrical model that properly propagates bus failures into EICAS messaging. Notably, the team has reworked the fly-by-wire pitch and roll law to account for MSFS 2024's revised aerodynamic solver, a known pain point for airliner add-ons during the platform's first year.
In parallel, Asobo Studio has detailed the scope of Sim Update 5 for MSFS 2024. The update focuses on three areas: DX12 frame-time consistency in high-density photogrammetry areas, WASM avionics execution priority (a direct response to third-party glass cockpit load times), and ground friction tuning for narrowbody operations. The WASM change matters most for the study-level crowd — PMDG, Fenix Simulations, and iniBuilds all lean heavily on WASM for FMS and systems logic, and improved scheduling translates directly into smoother MCDU/FMC interaction under load.
Asobo also confirmed continued work on the flight model's ground handling, with revised tire friction coefficients and crosswind behavior planned for taxi and takeoff roll. For simmers flying the 777-200ER on transatlantic VATSIM sectors, the combination of a mature PMDG systems model and a more predictable platform is the most consequential pairing since MSFS 2024 launched.
No firm release date has been given for the 777-200ER, though PMDG's typical beta-to-release window suggests a launch within weeks rather than months. SU5 is expected to enter public beta shortly, with Navigraph navdata already aligned to the current AIRAC cycle.
