PMDG has announced that its 737NGXu for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has entered beta testing, featuring a complete rewrite of the VNAV and LNAV systems to leverage the new sim's improved flight dynamics and avionics. The update promises more accurate RNP AR approach capabilities and enhanced FMS performance.

PMDG has officially entered beta testing for its highly anticipated 737NGXu update for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. According to a post on the PMDG forums, the team has completely overhauled the VNAV and LNAV systems to take advantage of MSFS 2024's improved flight dynamics and avionics architecture. This includes more precise vertical path calculations, better adherence to RNP AR approach procedures, and a redesigned FMS that more accurately mimics the real-world 737's performance.

The beta is currently limited to a small group of testers, but PMDG expects a public release within the next few weeks. Key improvements include enhanced LNAV tracking during high-latitude operations, improved VNAV descent path management, and compatibility with Navigraph's latest navdata cycle. The team also noted that the 737NGXu will support MSFS 2024's new atmospheric and lighting model, providing more realistic cockpit illumination and exterior reflections.

For serious simmers, this update represents a significant step forward in fidelity for one of the most iconic airliners in flight simulation. The 737NGXu has long been a staple for virtual airline pilots, and these enhancements will further blur the line between simulation and reality. PMDG has not yet announced a price for the update, but existing owners are expected to receive a discounted upgrade path.
