PMDG has released the open beta for their 737-800 v2.0 update in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, introducing a fully reworked EFIS and improved VNAV logic. The update promises deeper systems fidelity and improved performance on the new simulator platform.

PMDG has officially opened the beta gates for their highly anticipated 737-800 v2.0 update, built natively for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The update, which has been in internal testing since early August, brings a complete overhaul of the EFIS control panel and display unit, now fully leveraging the new simulator's glass cockpit capabilities. Users can expect more accurate symbology, smoother rendering of arc and map modes, and a new terrain mapping layer that rivals the resolution of the real Honeywell MFDs.

Beyond the visual refresh, the v2.0 update introduces a redesigned VNAV algorithm that better handles complex SID/STAR transitions and RNP approaches. PMDG's Robert Randazzo noted in the beta release notes that the new logic "significantly reduces the need for manual altitude intervention" during managed descents. The update also includes a new performance model tuned to MSFS 2024's improved aerodynamic physics, with revised V-speeds and thrust ratings for the CFM56-7B engines.

Testers have reported improved frame rates in dense scenery areas, thanks to optimized texture streaming and a new LOD system that dynamically adjusts cockpit detail. The beta is available to all PMDG owners through the Operations Center, with a stable release expected within a month. This update is a significant step forward for 737 pilots in the new simulator, and it will be interesting to see how it compares to the Fenix A320 in terms of depth and immersion.
