PMDG has announced that its 737-800 for MSFS 2024 has entered beta testing. The update includes a complete VNAV overhaul, RNP AR approach support, and improved LNAV tracking for complex SID/STAR procedures.
PMDG has confirmed that its highly anticipated 737-800 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has entered beta testing. The aircraft, which is a complete rebuild of the MSFS 2020 version, features a fully reworked VNAV system that now accurately models the 737's path descent and vertical speed modes. According to PMDG, the beta includes support for RNP AR approaches with radius-to-fix legs, a first for a PMDG product in MSFS.
The flight management computer (FMC) has been updated to include all current 737 NG FMC software features, including the ability to load and fly complex SID/STAR procedures with altitude and speed constraints. The autopilot and autothrottle systems have also been refined to better simulate the 737's real-world behavior, particularly during approach and landing. The beta testers are currently verifying the aircraft's performance across a range of scenarios, from short-field operations to long-haul flights.
In addition to the systems work, PMDG has improved the 3D model and textures, with higher-resolution cockpit details and more accurate exterior lighting. The 737-800 will be the first in a series of 737 variants for MSFS 2024, with the 737-700 and 737-900 expected to follow. PMDG has not announced a release date, but sources suggest a release could come as early as Q1 2027. The beta is currently closed, but PMDG plans to invite more testers in the coming weeks.
