Orbx has announced TrueEarth Great Britain South for MSFS 2024, featuring native PBR materials, improved seasonal vegetation, and revised landclass. The release promises an even more immersive low-level VFR experience over southern England, including London and the Thames Estuary.
Orbx Simulation Systems has officially announced TrueEarth Great Britain South for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, expanding its acclaimed TrueEarth series into the new sim generation. The package covers the southern part of England, from the Cotswolds to the Kent coast, including London Heathrow (EGLL), Gatwick (EGKK), and the busy general aviation fields of the Home Counties. The team has reworked the entire region with native PBR textures, bespoke autogen models, and a revised landclass that better reflects the patchwork of farmland, urban areas, and coastal terrain.
Notably, the MSFS 2024 edition introduces enhanced seasonal vegetation, with species-accurate tree placement and dynamic autumn colouring that responds to the in-sim climate system. Orbx also leveraged the new SDK to implement improved water masking in the Thames estuary and along the South Coast, addressing a common complaint in earlier iterations. The product is available now via Orbx Central, and existing owners of the MSFS 2020 version can upgrade at a discounted price.
For VFR enthusiasts, this is a transformative add-on. The level of detail in urban areas like Southampton and Portsmouth is staggering, with accurate landmarks and photorealistic ground textures that maintain crispness down to 500 feet AGL. While TrueEarth GB South is a staple for many, this native version finally uses the full capabilities of MSFS 2024, including volumetric cloud shadows and improved lighting interactions. Orbx has confirmed that the rest of the TrueEarth Great Britain series will follow, with Wales and Scotland expected later this year.
