Orbx has launched TrueEarth Southern California for MSFS 2024, covering over 100,000 square kilometers with 4K aerial imagery, custom autogen, and detailed landmarks like KLAX, KSAN, and the Hollywood sign. The package also includes enhanced night lighting and water masking.
Orbx Simulation Systems has released TrueEarth Southern California for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, a massive scenery package that covers the region from Santa Barbara to the Mexican border. The add-on features 4K resolution aerial imagery sourced from recent satellite data, with color correction and seasonal variations. The coverage area includes major airports like KLAX, KSAN, KPSP, and KBUR, though these are not full airport sceneries—they are enhanced with custom ground textures and accurate runway markings.
The package includes custom autogen for urban areas, with thousands of buildings placed using AI-driven algorithms to match the real-world footprint. Landmarks such as the Hollywood sign, Santa Monica Pier, and the Getty Center are modeled in high detail. The water masking has been improved to better represent the Pacific coastline, with accurate wave patterns and reflections.
Night lighting is particularly impressive, with dynamic light sources that mimic the sprawl of Los Angeles and San Diego. The package also includes improved road traffic and vegetation, making low-and-slow VFR flights a joy. Performance is surprisingly good, thanks to Orbx's optimization techniques—we saw a 5-10% frame rate impact compared to default scenery in the same area.
TrueEarth Southern California is available now for $49.99 AUD, with a discount for owners of the previous version. For simmers who fly in the region, this is an essential upgrade that transforms the visual experience.
