Orbx's latest TrueEarth region covers southern England and Wales with 5-meter terrain mesh, custom landmarks, and optimized performance for MSFS 2024. It includes over 200 custom POIs and improved night lighting.
Orbx Simulation Systems has launched TrueEarth Great Britain South for MSFS 2024, a comprehensive scenery package covering the southern half of England and Wales. This release utilizes a new 5-meter mesh derived from Environment Agency LIDAR data, offering unprecedented terrain detail in areas like the Lake District and Snowdonia. The package includes hand-corrected watermasks, custom autogen for urban areas, and over 200 custom points of interest, including landmarks such as Stonehenge, the Eden Project, and Cardiff Castle. All major airports within the coverage area—including EGLL, EGKK, and EGGW—are blended with default or add-on scenery to avoid elevation clashes.
Performance has been a focus, with Orbx claiming a 15% improvement in frame rates over the previous version due to better LOD management and texture compression. Night lighting has been overhauled, with more accurate light placement and reduced bloom for a more realistic dusk and dawn experience. The package also includes custom vegetation models for the region, with accurate tree species distribution. For IFR pilots, the updated mesh improves the accuracy of RNAV approaches into airports like EGGD (Bristol) and EGPH (Edinburgh), though the latter is just outside the coverage area.
TrueEarth Great Britain South is available now from Orbx Direct and various resellers for $49.99 AUD. Existing owners of the MSFS 2020 version are eligible for a 40% discount. The scenery requires MSFS 2024 and is not compatible with MSFS 2020. A central and northern England/Scotland package is expected in early 2027. For VFR enthusiasts, this is an essential addition to their hangar.
