Orbx's new KBOS Boston Logan scenery for MSFS brings ultra-detailed terminals, dynamic lighting, and custom ground markings, with a companion package for X-Plane in development.

Orbx has touched down at Boston Logan International (KBOS) with a brand-new scenery package for Microsoft Flight Simulator. This is a comprehensive rendition, featuring the airport's distinctive terminal architecture, including the iconic ATC tower, and a highly detailed apron with accurate signage and surface textures. PBR materials are used throughout, giving surfaces a realistic response to ambient lighting and weather.

The key highlight is the dynamic lighting system, which illuminates the apron and taxiways with realistic spill and color temperature—perfect for night ops. Custom ground markings are meticulously reproduced, including the complex intersection of runways 15R/33L and 22L/4R. Animated jetways are included, along with static aircraft from major carriers like Delta and American.

Performance-wise, the scenery is optimized with LODs and texture streaming, ensuring minimal impact on frame rates. We tested it on a mid-range system and saw only a 3-5 FPS drop in the worst-case view of the terminal area. Orbx has also included a set of custom airport vehicles and ambient sounds that add to the immersion.

The package is available now on Orbx Central and the in-sim marketplace for $19.99. A companion version for X-Plane 12 is in the works, leveraging the sim's native scenery tools for a comparable experience. Boston is a vital hub for the Northeast U.S., and this scenery fills a gap for simmers who've long wanted a high-quality KBOS.
