Orbx has announced TrueEarth Great Britain Central for MSFS 2024, covering the Midlands with enhanced 1m imagery and updated landclass, including new regional airports and improved night lighting. The release is scheduled for later this year.
Orbx Simulation Systems has lifted the lid on its next major photogrammetry project: TrueEarth Great Britain Central for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. This massive add-on covers a 160x160 km area in the heart of England, from the Welsh borders to the East Anglian coast, and it uses 1-meter resolution aerial imagery that has been color-corrected for MSFS 2024's lighting engine.
The package introduces a custom landclass system that more accurately represents the patchwork of farmland, hedgerows, and urban development that characterizes the Midlands. Orbx has also updated its POI placement, with over 200 new landmarks including the Silverstone Circuit, Warwick Castle, and the Bullring in Birmingham. For GA pilots, several regional airports have been hand-crafted, including Coventry (EGBE) and Sywell (EGBK), with detailed taxiways and custom hangars.
One of the standout features is the improved night lighting, which uses MSFS 2024's dynamic lighting to project a more realistic orange glow over city centers. Orbx has also incorporated an autumn season variant, showing changing leaf colors along the region's many canal corridors. The product will be available via Orbx Direct, and it integrates seamlessly with the existing Orbx Central library.
TrueEarth Great Britain Central is expected to be the first of several regions in the UK, with Scotland and Northern Ireland already in development. Orbx has been praised for its commitment to performance optimizations, and this release includes new LOD techniques that maintain high detail while reducing VRAM usage. Simmers flying the PMDG 737-800 out of East Midlands (EGNX) or the A2A Comanche into the countryside will find this a transformative addition to their flights.
