Navigraph and VATSIM announced a new partnership at FSExpo 2026 to create a comprehensive pilot training program, combining Navigraph's charts and SimBrief with VATSIM's online ATC network.
In a move that could reshape the online flying experience, Navigraph and VATSIM have announced a joint pilot training initiative at FSExpo 2026. The program, called 'Ready for Takeoff,' is designed to bridge the gap between offline flight planning and online ATC interactions.
The core of the initiative is a series of interactive tutorials that teach pilots how to use Navigraph Charts and SimBrief in conjunction with VATSIM's network. Lessons cover everything from basic filing to advanced procedures like RNP AR approaches and complex SIDs and STARs. Each module includes a practical flight scenario, and pilots can earn badges and recognition by completing them.
In addition to tutorials, the program will feature live 'mentored flights' on VATSIM, where experienced controllers and pilots guide newcomers through a full flight, from engine start to shutdown. These sessions will be scheduled regularly and announced via Navigraph's hub and VATSIM's events calendar.
The partnership also includes a new integrated flight briefing feature in VATSIM's pilot client, which will automatically import flight plans from SimBrief and display relevant charts from Navigraph in a pop-up window.
Speaking at FSExpo, Navigraph CEO Tim Kautzmann said, 'We want to lower the barrier for newcomers to online flying, and this is a perfect synergy.' VATSIM's VP of Marketing, Nickolas Koeppen, added, 'We're excited to provide a structured learning path that will help pilots become confident and proficient.'
The program is expected to launch in Q4 2026, with the first mentored flights scheduled for November.
