Asobo Studio has launched World Update XVII for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, focusing on Australia and New Zealand. This massive update brings new high-resolution photogrammetry for major cities including Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, and Wellington, along with improved 1-meter mesh for the entire region. Over 100 hand-crafted points of interest have been added, such as the Sydney Opera House, Auckland Sky Tower, and the Milford Sound fjords. Additionally, 15 new hand-crafted airports have been included, featuring accurate runway layouts, taxiways, and terminal buildings.
Notable airports include Sydney Kingsford Smith (YSSY), Melbourne Tullamarine (YMML), Brisbane (YBBN), Auckland (NZAA), and Christchurch (NZCH). These airports feature custom ground textures, dynamic lighting, and realistic signage. The update also improves vegetation and water masking, making VFR flying more immersive. For IFR enthusiasts, new navigation aids and updated SIDs/STARs have been added to match real-world procedures. The update is available now via the MSFS Marketplace as a free download for all MSFS 2024 users.
Asobo has also announced that a new Local Legend aircraft, the de Havilland Canada DHC-4 Caribou, will be released alongside the update. This rugged STOL aircraft is perfect for exploring the Outback and New Zealand's backcountry. With this World Update, MSFS 2024 continues to expand its global coverage, offering simmers unprecedented detail in some of the world's most scenic regions. The update is expected to be followed by a World Update for South America later this year.
