Asobo Studio releases Update 17 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, introducing a new weather engine with improved cloud rendering and a revamped ATC system. The update also brings performance optimizations and bug fixes.
Asobo Studio has rolled out Update 17 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, a substantial patch that overhauls the weather system and ATC logic. The new weather engine leverages advanced particle-based cloud rendering, delivering more realistic cumulonimbus formations and improved visibility in precipitation. Pilots will notice enhanced wind modeling, particularly in jet streams and microbursts, which directly impacts flight planning and fuel calculations.
The ATC system receives a major rewrite, incorporating more natural phraseology and improved vectoring logic. Controllers now issue more precise SID/STAR transitions and altitude assignments, aligning with real-world procedures. This update also introduces dynamic runway changes based on live weather, significantly enhancing the realism of IFR operations.
Performance optimizations target stuttering on high-end systems, with a 15% average frame rate improvement in dense scenery areas. Additionally, several long-standing bugs related to FMS waypoint entry and VNAV descent profiles have been fixed. Update 17 is available now via the in-sim marketplace, and we recommend it for all MSFS 2024 users, especially those flying airliners on VATSIM or IVAO.
