Asobo Studio has released Update 17 Beta for MSFS 2024, introducing a revamped weather engine with better cloud rendering and improved wind data. Performance optimizations for VR and multi-monitor setups are also included.
Asobo Studio has opened the beta for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Update 17, a significant release that introduces a redesigned weather engine. The new system provides more accurate cloud formations, improved precipitation effects, and better wind data integration, enhancing both visual fidelity and flight dynamics.
Early reports from beta testers indicate a noticeable reduction in stutter during weather transitions, and the new atmospheric scattering model adds a more realistic haze at altitude. The update also includes optimizations for VR users, with improved frame pacing and reduced reprojection on devices like the Meta Quest 3.
Performance improvements extend to multi-monitor setups, a boon for cockpit builders who use multiple displays for a wraparound view. Asobo has also addressed several long-standing bugs in the G3000 avionics suite, which will please owners of the TBM 930 and other default aircraft.
The beta is available now through the Microsoft Flight Simulator marketplace on PC, and participants are encouraged to provide feedback via the official forums. A full release is expected in the coming months.
