MSFS 2024 Sim Update 3 Beta Focuses on Multiplayer Stability and New Weather Radar

Asobo Studio has released the beta for Sim Update 3 in MSFS 2024, introducing a new volumetric weather radar, improved multiplayer netcode, and performance optimizations. The update is now available to all participants.

Asobo Studio has opened the public beta for Sim Update 3 of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and it brings several highly anticipated improvements. The most significant addition is a new volumetric weather radar system, which provides realistic precipitation returns and turbulence indications. This feature is fully compatible with third-party aircraft that support the SDK, such as the Fenix A320 and PMDG 737, allowing pilots to see weather on their ND displays.

Multiplayer stability has been a focus for this update, with a rewritten netcode that reduces rubber-banding and improves server synchronization. The update also includes performance optimizations for ground handling and improved texture streaming, which should reduce stutters when flying over dense scenery. Additionally, Asobo has fixed a number of bugs related to ATC and flight planning.

Beta testers have reported positive results, with frame rate improvements of up to 15% on some systems. The update also introduces a new set of achievements and a revamped activity log. Sim Update 3 is expected to be released to the general public in late September, following a typical beta period. Asobo continues to iterate on the MSFS 2024 platform, and this update demonstrates the team's commitment to improving the experience for all simmers.
