Asobo Studio has released Sim Update 16 for MSFS 2024, introducing a live weather engine overhaul, improved cloud rendering, and the addition of two new default aircraft. The update also addresses long-standing autopilot issues and enhances VR performance.
Asobo Studio has rolled out Sim Update 16 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, a substantial patch that focuses on refining the simulation's core. The headline feature is a reworked live weather engine, which now incorporates more accurate pressure gradients and wind shear modeling near thunderstorms. Cloud rendering has been upgraded with better volumetric lighting and more realistic cumulonimbus development.
Two new default aircraft have been added: a Cessna 408 SkyCourier and a Beechcraft King Air 260. Both feature detailed cockpits and flight models, with the King Air including a fully functional Pro Line Fusion avionics suite. These additions expand the default fleet's utility for regional airline and corporate flight simulation.
Sim Update 16 also fixes several autopilot issues reported by the community, including incorrect VNAV path tracking on ILS approaches and erratic lateral behavior during holds. Virtual reality performance has been improved through better dynamic foveated rendering options on supported headsets.
This update marks a significant step forward for MSFS 2024, addressing many of the criticisms leveled at the platform since its launch. The new weather engine alone makes cloud surfing and IFR flying more immersive than ever.
