Laminar Research has rolled out X-Plane 12.1.2, bringing refinements to engine FADEC logic and a significant systems update for the default Airbus A330-300. The patch also includes performance optimizations and fixes for VR controllers.

Laminar Research has released X-Plane 12.1.2, the latest incremental update to its flagship simulator. This version focuses on enhancing the realism of jet engine operations, particularly the FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control) logic for both the default Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A330-300. The FADEC now more accurately models thrust response during transient conditions, such as gusty winds or rapid throttle movements, providing a more authentic feel during takeoff and approach.

The default A330-300 has received a substantial systems update, including a more detailed hydraulic system with proper fluid dynamics and failure modes, as well as an improved electrical system that simulates bus tie logic. The flight management and guidance system (FMGS) now supports RNP AR approaches with radius-to-fix legs, and the autopilot has been tuned for smoother altitude capture. These changes make the A330 a more viable option for long-haul enthusiasts without the need for third-party add-ons.

Performance-wise, 12.1.2 introduces optimizations for Vulkan and Metal, resulting in higher frame rates in dense scenery areas. VR users will appreciate the improved controller interaction and reduced latency. The update is available now via the X-Plane installer, and Laminar has indicated that further improvements to ATC and AI traffic are in the pipeline for 12.2.
