X-Plane 12.1.2 brings improved ATC phraseology and a functional weather radar for default aircraft. The update also enhances turbulence modeling and fixes several CTDs reported by the community.
Laminar Research has released X-Plane 12.1.2, a substantial update that addresses several key areas of the simulator. The built-in ATC has received a significant overhaul, with more realistic phraseology and better handling of SID/STAR clearances. Pilots can now expect vectors that adhere to published procedures, and the system now recognizes RNP approaches with radius-to-fix legs. This is a welcome change for those flying complex IFR routes in default aircraft or with third-party add-ons.
The default weather radar, previously non-functional, now accurately displays precipitation returns based on the new weather engine. This includes tilt control and ground clutter simulation, making it a useful tool for avoiding convective activity. Additionally, the flight model has been refined to better simulate turbulence penetration and wake turbulence encounters, particularly at high altitudes.
Laminar also fixed numerous crash-to-desktop issues related to Vulkan and improved VR performance. The update is available now via the X-Plane installer. Third-party developers like ToLiss and FlightFactor have already confirmed compatibility with their respective Airbus and Boeing products. The community is encouraged to report any remaining issues on the official X-Plane forums.
