X-Plane 12.3.1 delivers refined turbulence modeling and a reworked GPS approach database, while ToLiss confirms its A330-900 NEO is in final testing with full custom FMS and ATHR logic.

Laminar Research has released X-Plane 12.3.1, a point update that sharpens several areas of interest to IFR-focused simmers. The headline changes include refined turbulence and thermal modeling in the boundary layer, a reworked GPS approach database that better handles RF legs and RNAV (RNP) procedures, and improved autopilot capture logic for localizer and glideslope intercepts. The GPS improvements matter for anyone flying complex PBN arrivals into terrain-constrained airports, where the sim's previous leg sequencing could produce unrealistic fly-over versus fly-by behavior.

Laminar has also tuned the default FMS to handle altitude and speed constraints more predictably on STARs, reducing the need for manual interventions that broke immersion on high-workload arrivals. Combined with the improved turbulence model, the update makes hand-flown approaches in gusty conditions feel more plausible — a persistent criticism of X-Plane's atmospheric simulation compared to real-world handling qualities.

On the add-on front, ToLiss has confirmed that its A330-900 NEO is in final testing, with a fully custom FMS, independent autothrottle logic, and a detailed hydraulic and electrical model. The ToLiss approach is well known to X-Plane airliner pilots: heavy emphasis on system depth and FMS fidelity rather than visual spectacle. Early testers report that the A330's characteristic roll response and the Trent 7000's spool behavior are captured convincingly.

FlightFactor continues work on its own long-haul projects, and the combination of a maturing X-Plane 12 platform and serious Airbus/Boeing add-ons keeps the sim competitive for study-level operations. For simmers weighing platform choice, 12.3.1 is a reminder that Laminar's incremental improvements compound meaningfully over time.
