The latest X-Plane 12 update brings significant improvements to the default ATC system, including better SID/STAR handling and more realistic traffic separation, alongside performance optimizations.
Laminar Research has released X-Plane 12.2.7, a substantial update that addresses long-standing community requests. The headline feature is a revamped ATC engine that now correctly processes complex SID and STAR clearances, with improved altitude and speed restrictions. The system also better handles traffic separation, reducing the frequency of conflicting instructions during busy periods.
In addition to ATC enhancements, the update includes performance optimizations for Vulkan and Metal, resulting in higher frame rates in dense scenery areas. Several aircraft have received flight model refinements, particularly the default Cessna Citation X, which now exhibits more accurate high-speed characteristics. The update also fixes numerous bugs reported by users, such as issues with the G1000 avionics and autopilot behavior in crosswind conditions.
Third-party developers have praised the update, noting that the improved ATC SDK allows for more seamless integration with add-on traffic packages. The update is available now via the X-Plane installer. Laminar Research has hinted that further ATC improvements, including voice recognition, are planned for the 12.3 milestone.
