Laminar Research has outlined X-Plane 12.3.0, featuring a revised ATC vectoring engine and improved CAT turbulence modeling. The update also refines the G1000 and GNS430/530 avionics suites.
Laminar Research has detailed the upcoming 12.3.0 update for X-Plane 12, focusing on two long-requested areas: air traffic control and atmospheric turbulence. The revised ATC engine introduces more realistic vectoring during approach, including proper interception of localizer and glideslope, and better handling of go-arounds at high-density airports like KLAX and EGLL. Austin Meyer noted that the new logic uses a lightweight conflict-detection algorithm to sequence arrivals more naturally.
On the weather side, 12.3.0 adds improved clear air turbulence (CAT) modeling, particularly near jet streams and mountainous terrain. The update also refines the G1000 and GNS430/530 avionics, adding full RNAV (RNP) AR approach support and better FMS leg sequencing. Third-party developers like ToLiss and FlightFactor are already integrating the new SDK hooks into their A320neo and A350 products.
Additionally, the update includes performance optimizations for Vulkan, reducing stutters during dense scenery loading. Laminar plans a public beta in late October, with a full release targeted for November. The team also confirmed continued work on the default A330-300, which will receive updated FADEC and hydraulic logic in a future patch. X-Plane 12 users can expect the beta via the standard Steam and Laminar installer channels.
