Laminar Research has outlined the upcoming X-Plane 12.1.2 update, which brings significant enhancements to the default FMS, a new default aircraft, and further Vulkan API optimizations. The update is expected to enter public beta later this month.

Laminar Research has released preliminary details on X-Plane 12.1.2, the next major update to its flagship simulator. According to the developer's official roadmap, this version will introduce a completely rewritten default FMS that supports RNAV, VNAV, and LNAV with greater fidelity. The new FMS will also include a more accurate database parsing system, allowing for seamless integration with Navigraph navdata and custom procedures.

In addition to the FMS overhaul, X-Plane 12.1.2 will add a new default aircraft: the Cirrus SR22T. This glass-cockpit single-engine piston will feature a fully functional G1000 avionics suite, including synthetic vision and engine monitoring. The aircraft is designed to showcase the simulator's improved flight dynamics and engine modeling, particularly with respect to turbocharged performance and mixture management.

Performance-wise, Laminar Research continues to refine the Vulkan renderer. The update promises improved frame rates in dense scenery areas, reduced stuttering, and better VRAM management. These optimizations are particularly beneficial for users running high-resolution ortho scenery or complex airliner add-ons like the ToLiss A340-600 or FlightFactor 767.

The update will also address several community-reported issues, including autopilot oscillation in gusty winds, incorrect ILS glideslope capture, and weather radar rendering. A public beta is scheduled to begin in late October, with a stable release targeted for December. Laminar Research encourages users to participate in the beta and provide feedback via the official X-Plane forums.
