Laminar Research has outlined the upcoming X-Plane 12.1.2 update, focusing on performance optimizations and improved VR support. The roadmap also hints at new default aircraft and enhanced ATC.
Laminar Research has provided details on the next update for X-Plane 12, version 12.1.2, which is currently in beta. The update primarily targets performance improvements, with optimizations to the rendering engine that promise up to 15% higher frame rates in dense scenery areas. VR support is also receiving attention, with reduced latency and improved controller interaction.
The update includes fixes for several reported bugs, including issues with the G1000 avionics suite and the flight model's handling of crosswind landings. Additionally, Laminar has announced that the default A330-300 will receive an updated FMS with more accurate VNAV and RNAV capabilities, aligning it closer to real-world operations.
Looking ahead, the roadmap for 2027 includes plans for a new default aircraft—rumored to be a regional jet—and a revamped ATC system with more realistic phraseology and traffic handling. Laminar also confirmed that X-Plane 12 will continue to support third-party developers with updated SDK tools. The 12.1.2 update is expected to exit beta in early November.
