Fenix Simulations has released Block 2 of its A320 for MSFS, introducing the IAE V2500 engine variant and a revamped MCDU with improved performance calculations. The update also includes refined fly-by-wire logic and autoland capabilities.
Fenix Simulations has launched Block 2 of its highly regarded Airbus A320 for Microsoft Flight Simulator, marking a significant milestone in the add-on's development. The headline feature is the inclusion of the IAE V2500 engine variant, complete with distinct performance characteristics, fuel burn, and sound pack. This addition allows simmers to replicate real-world airline configurations more accurately, such as those operated by British Airways and American Airlines.
The MCDU has received a substantial overhaul, with a new takeoff and landing performance module that calculates V-speeds based on actual runway conditions, weight, and temperature. The module also supports derated thrust and assumed temperature flex calculations, aligning with real-world airline procedures. Furthermore, the fly-by-wire system has been refined to better emulate the A320's C* law and protections, particularly during gusty crosswind landings.
Autoland capability has been enhanced, with improved LOC and GS tracking, and the addition of CAT IIIb autoland for eligible airports. The update also addresses minor visual issues, such as wing flex and flap animations. Fenix has stated that Block 2 is the culmination of months of work and feedback from the community, and it sets the stage for future enhancements, including the A321 expansion.
For serious Airbus simmers, Block 2 solidifies the Fenix A320 as the most technically accurate A320 simulation available for MSFS. The IAE engines alone provide a new level of immersion, and the MCDU improvements streamline pre-flight planning. The update is available now via the Fenix installer.
