Asobo Studio has released City Update 4 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, bringing a significant visual upgrade to the Los Angeles basin. The update covers the greater Los Angeles area, including LAX (KLAX), Long Beach (KLGB), and the surrounding neighborhoods. The most striking improvement is the complete rebuild of the photogrammetry, which now offers sharper textures and more accurate building geometry, especially for high-rise structures like the US Bank Tower and the Wilshire Grand Center.

In addition to the photogrammetry, the update adds several new custom landmarks, such as the iconic Theme Building at LAX, the Long Beach Cruise Terminal, and the RMS Queen Mary, which has been meticulously recreated with accurate textures and signage. The aerial imagery has also been updated to 2024 data, reflecting recent construction and road changes. Pilots flying into KLAX will notice the new approach lighting and taxiway markings, which have been updated to match real-world charts.

The update is available now for free through the in-sim marketplace, and it includes a set of new discovery flights and landing challenges. Performance seems to be on par with previous city updates, though the increased detail may require a beefy GPU for ultra settings. This is a must-have for anyone who enjoys flying the Southern California area, and it sets a high bar for future city updates.
