Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has received Sim Update 4, introducing photogrammetry for three new cities and addressing numerous crash-to-desktop issues. The update also improves AI traffic behavior and adds new landing challenges.

Asobo Studio has released Sim Update 4 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, bringing a host of improvements and new content. The headline feature is the addition of photogrammetry for three new cities: Tokyo, London, and Sydney. These areas now feature highly detailed 3D buildings and landmarks, greatly enhancing the visual experience for low-and-slow flyers and airliner pilots alike. The update also includes new hand-crafted airports: Kuala Lumpur International (WMKK) and Rio de Janeiro/Galeão (SBGL).

On the technical side, Sim Update 4 addresses several crash-to-desktop issues that have plagued users since launch, particularly those related to memory management and DX12. AI traffic behavior has been refined, with improvements to holding patterns and go-arounds. The update also introduces a new landing challenge at Innsbruck (LOWI) using the default A320neo, and adds a new discovery flight over the Swiss Alps. The SDK has been updated to allow third-party developers to better integrate custom systems and avionics.

Performance has also been a focus, with optimizations to the terrain rendering engine that reduce stuttering in dense areas. Users have reported smoother experiences in regions like New York and Los Angeles. Sim Update 4 is available now for all MSFS 2024 users, and Asobo has confirmed that Sim Update 5 is scheduled for February 2027, focusing on weather and live traffic enhancements.
