Sim Update 3 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is now live, introducing a rewritten AI-based ATC system and two new regional jets from iniBuilds and Carenado, with a focus on improved FMS and weather radar.
Asobo Studio has deployed Sim Update 3 (SU3) for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, a substantial patch that addresses long-standing community requests. The headline feature is a completely rewritten ATC system, leveraging AI to deliver more realistic clearances, handoffs, and vectoring. Pilots will notice more accurate SID/STAR assignments and better phraseology, though the system still falls short of VATSIM-level realism—but it’s a marked improvement over the legacy implementation.
SU3 also brings two new default aircraft: the iniBuilds A300-600R and the Carenado EMB-120 Brasilia. The A300-600R features a detailed FMS with VNAV and LNAV, while the Brasilia offers a taste of classic turboprop flying with its EFIS suite. Both aircraft include functional weather radar, which now integrates with the new volumetric cloud system. Additionally, Asobo has improved ground handling physics and fixed several bugs related to the 737 MAX’s flight envelope protections.
The update is available now through the in-sim marketplace. Performance benchmarks show a 10-15% frame rate improvement on high-end systems, thanks to optimizations in the rendering pipeline. For users with the Premium Deluxe edition, the A300-600R is included at no extra cost. Initial reactions from the community are positive, with many praising the ATC overhaul as a step toward simulating real-world traffic flows. As always, third-party add-ons like PMDG and Fenix may require updates to ensure compatibility, so check your favorite developers’ forums before flying.
