Asobo Studio has outlined Sim Update 5 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, emphasizing stability fixes and performance optimizations. The update is currently in public beta and is expected to release in early November.
Asobo Studio has provided details on the upcoming Sim Update 5 (SU5) for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, currently in public beta testing. According to a development update on the official forums, SU5 focuses on addressing stability issues reported since launch, particularly those related to memory leaks and CTDs during long-haul flights. The team has also worked on performance optimizations for both PC and Xbox, including improved multi-threading and reduced stuttering in dense scenery areas.
Key changes include a revised weather engine that more accurately simulates wake turbulence and wind shear, and improvements to the live traffic system, which now better adheres to real-world schedules. Asobo has also updated the default avionics suite, with the G1000 NXi and G3000 receiving new features such as visual approaches and improved VNAV path smoothing.
In addition, SU5 introduces a new "Performance" graphics preset that automatically adjusts settings to maintain a target frame rate, similar to dynamic resolution scaling. The update also includes fixes for several third-party aircraft compatibility issues, particularly those using custom WASM modules.
The beta is open to all users via the Xbox Insider Hub, and Asobo encourages simmers to report any issues. The final release is slated for early November, with a full changelog to follow. For a simulator that has faced criticism over stability, SU5 is a crucial step toward a smoother experience, and the community is watching closely.
