Asobo Studio has published a development update detailing the upcoming Sim Update 5 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The update, currently in public beta, focuses on stability improvements, avionics enhancements, and ground handling refinements. According to the post, Sim Update 5 includes over 200 bug fixes, with a particular emphasis on crash-to-desktop issues reported since the launch of MSFS 2024.
The Garmin G1000 NXi and G3000 avionics suites receive significant updates, including improved flight plan editing, better VNAV support, and more accurate terrain awareness. The update also adds new features to the GNS 530/430, such as airway entry and improved procedure turns. These changes will benefit a wide range of default and third-party aircraft, from the Cessna 172 to the Citation CJ4.
Ground handling has been a common complaint since MSFS 2024's release, and Asobo has addressed this with a revised friction model that better simulates tire grip on different surfaces. The update also includes improvements to the taxiway and runway lighting, as well as fixes for AI traffic behavior. Performance optimizations are also included, with better CPU utilization and reduced stuttering in dense areas.
Sim Update 5 is expected to release in late October. Simmers can test the beta now via the Xbox Insider Hub on PC. Asobo encourages users to provide feedback on the official forums, noting that community input has been instrumental in shaping the update.
